With a creative team featuring both Japanese and American filmmakers, and a culturally diverse cast and crew, PATH OF DREAMS is a testament to the kind of collaborative process that should be filmmaking’s future.
Path of Dreams was filmed on location, over a period of four days, in Niigata prefecture in Japan. Shimizuen Garden in Shibata was the primary filming location and served as the home of Komachi. Yahiko Shrine, nestled in the mountains at the base of Mt. Yahiko, was first built about 1300 years ago, and served as the location for the Kyoto imperial court.
Path of Dreams features the music of Tsukemen, a three man group comprised of two violinists, Tairiku and Kenta, and a pianist, Suguru. Rooted in the classical tradition, their thoroughly modern musical expression provides an emotional soundtrack to the love and heartbreak of Path of Dreams. The albums of Tsukemen are available on King Records.
We are forever grateful to every one of our supporters. 234 people were involved in some fasion in the making of this film, from crew who volunteered their time and paid their own way to Japan, to volunteers who helped with fundraising events and readings. Path of Dreams was funded entirely through the donations of individuals as well as two generous grants from the Aurora Foundation in Los Angeles and Global Film Network in New York. Thank you to everyone who believed in us and our mission of cross cultural collaboration.
